Human Design IRL: Avery of Wagner Perspective
Welcome back to another installment of Human Design IRL - where I interview my amazing friends and people I know who are living their Designs, creating magic with their lives, and enjoying the process along the way. The idea is to show how the knowledge of Human Design translates into real life, and to provide tangible examples of expanders, or people who show you the kind of abundance that’s available for your life.
For the first interview of the year I’m talking with my powerhouse and sassy, to-the-point friend and fellow entrepreneur Avery Wagner. Avery has worn many professional hats in her life, with most centering around her gifts of bringing beauty and class to everything she touches, and all of this leading her to start her own social media and digital development company called Wagner Perspective.
Hailing as the Head Bitch in Charge (formally ‘Founder and Creative Director’), Avery has recently officially launched Wagner Perspective and it’s been the most fun getting a behind the scenes peek at all her hard work coming to fruition. And from a Human Design perspective, she is a shining example of what it looks like to be a Projector who recognizes herself and her gifts first and foremost. Her answers from this interview will entertain, inspire, and motivate you, and I can’t wait for you to get to know her (and follow more of her on her personal IG @itsaverywagner + her work account @wagnerperspective).
Avery’s Design:
Type: Energy Projector
Authority: Splenic
Profile: 3 / 5
Sara: Ah, my wise powerhouse of many talents and personal social media guru. It’s been an absolute joy getting a front row seat at watching you leap into creating your own business, but for the outsiders, share a little bit about your professional background and how it led you to where you are now. Including who and what is Wagner Perspective.
Avery: So, if I look back it really is wild how all roads have (kind of) led me straight here. Let me bore everyone with a far too long story about…well…me real quick…I graduated from college in 2015 with a (completely useless) degree in Communications. Like what even is that degree, idk? But while I was in college, it would be safe to say that I was pretty obsessed with social media. I was always the bitch with the most updated facebook photo albums (remember when those were a thing??) and I adopted Instagram (and snapchat –RIP lol) very early when they came on the scene. I was actually the “Web Master” (ha- what a title) for my Sorority…which at the time, meant updating an extremely lame tumblr page and occasionally editing a wordpress site…but I did help start our chapter’s IG account WAY back in 2011, which was pretty ground breaking tbh. Post grad I jumped around from job to job all within the interior design industry and was dabbling in social for each company I worked for…picking up moonlighting gigs here and there in social media for friends & small businesses. At the beginning of 2019 I started working for an Interior Designer out of Huntington Beach and was originally hired on in an assistant/project manager capacity. That role VERY quickly transitioned into full time Social Media Manager when the person who was previously filling the SMM role left without giving a two weeks notice. Growing and running multiple accounts for my then boss became my entire life and I loved it so much I knew I wanted to work with more people–and Wagner Perspective was born. At Wagner Perspective, we claim “Damn Good Digital Development” is our thing with Social Media Management, High Level Consulting and Training, and Content Creation as our bread and butter (and jam!).
Sara: As a wise and gifted Projector, what are the gifts you know you bring to the table in Wagner Perspective and for your clients?
Avery: MY HONESTY! Lol I am brutally honest with my clients. There is NO sugar coating in the Wagner Perspective world...because…well….what’s the point of sugar coating stuff? If I see something that needs fixing, I am not afraid to say it. The combination of my creative eye, working in conjunction with my strong conviction is what makes Wagner Perspective….just that…The Wagner Perspective!
Sara: How have you noticed that “waiting for the invitation” has benefitted you in your professional life?
Avery: So for me, “waiting for the invitation” looks a little more like this: An “invitation” is actually the product of recognition…and the most important recognition is the recognition of Self. In other words, I know who I am and what my best qualities are and I think I have really honed in on that concept over the last 2 years. I feel extremely aligned with the clients I extend services to because they know exactly who I am. As a Projector, I think I have called my clients towards me – literally, asking them to invite me, by being open and ready for invitations.…I mean, if you follow me on instagram (@itsaverywagner) it will be hard to not get a super good sense of this whole ass personality.
Sara: I also love that you got Human Design Guides for everyone in your family. How have you seen it shift the dynamic in your family by having these insights into one another?
Avery: OOH, this I could go ON and ON about for DAYS! But, I’ll keep it short. Getting guides for my family members changed everything for us….or I guess I will speak for myself…changed everything for me. My family has hit a bit of a rough patch as of late (suffice to say therapy bills are high RN) and finding out more about each member of my family’s Human Design was a GAME CHANGER. It helped me to communicate much better with each of them and understand their viewpoints and their decision-making process (or lack there of-lol I’m related to 2 Manifesting Generators and 1 Generator!) in a much different way.
Sara: What’s your favorite thing about being a Social Media Queen? What’s your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur in general?
Avery: TBH being in social media is frustrating AF 98% of the time. In a way you are at the mercy of the platforms and they legit change what feels like every 24 hours. But my favorite part of my job is being able to help small business owners and creative entrepreneurs feel really confident about what they are putting out there online. It can be vulnerable sharing yourself with the world via the internet, so I love being able to come alongside my clients and make them feel more comfortable with the platforms and more connected with their audience. And as far as ‘entrepreneuring’ goes—I don’t like being told what to do. EVER. So, this line of work solves that problem in 1 second flat, now doesn't it? (insert cry laugh emoji here).
Sara: What advice would you give to anyone wanting to create and go after their dream job? AKA what advice or wisdom has been most helpful to you on this journey?
Avery: JUST. FUCKING. START. I know that shit is lame and like everyone says it 24/7, but I had that quote hanging on my wall for like 2 years and it stared me in the face for a LONG ass time before I finally did START. It’s just about moving the needle. Just a little bit every day. So, if you can pick something you love (or honestly moderately like–or at the VERY least are pretty good at), and just start moving the needle, you’ll be fine. OH…also….work FUCKING HARD, like really fucking hard and don’t be a martyr about it. Nobody likes a fucking martyr. And that…ladies and gents…is just The Wagner Perspective (insert wink emoji here).
